Twitter, RSS and Pushnote

I already use RSS a bit in Firefox and find it useful but until now I haven’t signed up to twitter. This programme gives me some incentive to explore it and get used to using it. Now to catch up with a few more of the 23 things.

Branding

August 18, 2011 Leave a comment

At present my online presence is quite small. Other than this brand new blog, I have a facebook account for personal use and a linkedin account which I set up earlier this year and which I’d like to make better use of. This small online presence  and a relatively common surname means having to click through  several pages to find the correct me is no great surprise. Adding library to the end of the search means that I find myself on the first page of the results as I recently joined the local UC&R committee. It makes a certain amount of sense to consider my online brand at this early stage but at the same time I don’t want to spend to much time worrying about it.

exploring other blogs

So I’ve moved on to looking at some of the other blogs. There are over 760 on the delicious bookmarks so I’m spoilt for choice. I’ve looked at some of the more recent entrants and it’s good to know I’m not the only late starter. Using the tags to narrow it down to the HE sector reduces the number to 310 but that’s still a lot to choose from so like many others I’ve scrolled down the list selecting blogs at random or because the names are interesting. It’s encouraging to see that while some are seasoned bloggers many,  like me, are new to it.

Signing on and thing 1

August 4, 2011 2 comments

I’ve just created my first ever blog, signed up to 23 things for CPD and am now writing my debut blog post. I’ve joined the programme late so I’m going to have a bit of catching up to do but I still want to do it. I think it could be a good way to learn about web 2.0 technologies from other professionals and I feel it’s a good way to try out blogging. Many of the things look like they could be extremely useful and I’m looking forward to getting to grips with them.
